Original Research by School Decision on Valiente College Preparatory Charter District
Valiente College Preparatory Charter District served grades five through eight and operated a single school in the Los Angeles County area. The district is no longer in operation. Its school, Valiente College Preparatory Charter, permanently closed at the end of the 2023-24 school year following a March 2024 board vote to shutter operations.
The closure was driven by a significant decline in enrollment tied to lower birth rates and gentrification-related residential displacement that reduced the school's funding base. At the time enrollment data was last reported, the district served a small population of students, the majority of whom were Hispanic, with smaller portions identifying as multiracial or Black. When the school closed, roughly nine out of every ten students transferred to Westbrook Academy, according to publicly reported figures.
The district's per-pupil spending in its final year was in the upper range among Los Angeles County's districts, reflecting the economics of operating a small school. The chronic absenteeism rate, however, sat in the bottom quartile when compared to the county's other districts, a condition that typically signals underlying challenges in student engagement or family stability.
Because the school has closed, there is no ongoing academic performance data, state testing profile, or graduation rate to report. Families who had students enrolled there or were considering the school need to look at other options; Westbrook Academy became the primary destination for students who were already enrolled when the closure was announced.
