About School Decision

School Decision investigates what is changing in education, why it is happening, and what the evidence shows.

School Decision is an education intelligence publication for families and anyone trying to understand how schools and school systems are changing.

What we publish

News, research, and Topics are the public product. School Decision maintains school, district, geographic, financial, demographic, and other public datasets as research infrastructure underneath that work.

Why we refuse a score

A single school number often tracks neighborhood wealth more than what happens inside the building.

We synthesize the official record. We do not compress it into a grade.

The demography-in-disguise argument is associated with education historian Jack Schneider; see Jack Schneider, Beyond Test Scores: A Better Way to Measure School Quality (Harvard Education Press, 2017).

How synthesis works

Agencies publish the record. We put the files together, add sourced reporting, and say what they mean for a place.

The interpretation is ours. The evidence stays visible.

The mark

School Decision

Almost every American student has drawn the classic Cool S on a notebook. That shared mark is the direct inspiration behind the School Decision logo. It is heritage, not a product.
