East Central ISD is a mid-sized public school district in Bexar County that enrolls students from pre-K through grade 12. The district serves a predominantly Hispanic population spread across several small towns and unincorporated areas south of San Antonio, including Adkins, Converse, Elmendorf, Marion, Saint Hedwig, Schertz, and portions of San Antonio itself. The district has grown substantially and now operates at severe capacity constraints, a fact that shapes near-term strategic decisions and parent choice about where families will attend.

Test proficiency data from 2024-25 shows mixed results across subjects and grade levels. In elementary reading and language arts, around two in five third and fourth graders performed at proficiency or above, and roughly half of fifth graders did so on the Spanish-language assessment. Reading performance holds steadier in the middle grades, with approaching or above-proficiency rates in the low to mid-forties in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades. Mathematics is a weaker area.
