Weiner Elementary serves kindergarten through sixth grade in the small, rural agricultural town of Weiner, Arkansas, part of the Harrisburg School District. The school sits in a town shaped by rice farming and duck hunting, a community that has seen steady population decline over several decades. Weiner’s own school district was consolidated into Harrisburg years ago under a state law requiring minimum enrollment, and the high school later closed, meaning students in seventh grade and above are bused roughly ten miles to Harrisburg. The elementary school remains a local anchor, but for secondary education the campus is elsewhere.

Academically, Weiner Elementary shows a notable pattern. State test results in math, English language arts, and science vary considerably by grade level. In third grade, across all three subjects, the share of students reaching proficiency is low. Fourth grade results are somewhat stronger but still below where many families would hope to see them. Fifth and sixth grade, however, tell a very different story: in those grades, proficiency rates climb sharply, with math and science reaching very high levels and English also showing solid performance. Overall, when all tested grades and subjects are combined into a single proficiency index, the school lands in the top quartile relative to other district-level entities in Poinsett County.
