McKellips Learning Center is no longer operating. The school’s official status is inactive, which means it is not currently serving students and is not an option for families. Any data attached to it is historical, dating from the 2009–10 school year, and should be read as a record of the past rather than a picture of the present.

What does exist from that single year of testing shows very low academic performance. In mathematics, proficiency rates were in the single digits for seventh and eighth graders, the two grade levels with enough students for a reported result. In science, the eighth-grade proficiency rate was similarly low. English language arts fared a little better, with just under a third of eighth graders scoring proficient, but that still placed well below state averages for the time. Mesa is a large, sprawling suburban city in the Phoenix metro area, the third-largest in Arizona, with an auto-oriented layout of wide arterial roads and residential neighborhoods. Its housing market is moderate relative to national norms, with a typical home value and monthly rent that are broadly in line with the Phoenix suburbs. The city has a mix of older western neighborhoods and newer eastern subdivisions, a small downtown cultural hub, and major employers in aerospace, health care, and education. Mesa Unified District, the parent district, had no publicly reported recent changes or strategic initiatives that would be relevant here.

For a parent or resident reading this, the key takeaway is simple: McKellips Learning Center is closed and has been for some time.
