Wing Lane Elementary is a small public school serving kindergarten through fifth grade in the dense, family-oriented residential community of Valinda in the San Gabriel Valley. The school sits in what is a built-out, economically modest neighborhood where most residents are Hispanic/Latino with a substantial Asian community, and where families with children are the norm.

The student body reflects the neighborhood closely. The vast majority of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and the school is almost entirely Hispanic/Latino. Parks like Rimgrove Park anchor recreation and community life, and Foothill Transit and the county-run East Valinda Shuttle provide transit connections. The neighborhood is almost entirely built out with very low housing vacancy, so growth comes through infill such as accessory dwelling units and small multi-unit projects rather than large new subdivisions. Housing costs are substantial relative to area incomes, and rents have been rising. Most working residents commute by car, many traveling west toward downtown Los Angeles for employment.
