Grover Beach Elementary serves kindergarten through sixth grade in a small coastal city in San Luis Obispo County. The school sits within a mostly residential community where single-family homes, parks, and green space predominate, with a state-owned beach and undeveloped dunes characterizing the waterfront. The school's enrollment is small, with just over four hundred students spread across seven grades. A substantial majority of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and the student body is predominantly Hispanic, with a smaller White population and smaller numbers of Asian, multiracial, and Black students.

Academic proficiency at Grover Beach Elementary is low across tested subjects.
