Rancho Vista Elementary is a small school of about average size for its grade band, serving kindergarten through fifth grade in Rolling Hills Estates, an affluent hilltop community on the northern Palos Verdes Peninsula. The school sits in a low-density, car-oriented residential area defined by single-family ranch homes, equestrian zoning, and white-rail fencing rather than traditional suburban density. The setting is deliberately rural and slow-growing; the broader city has expanded only modestly over decades and continues to resist dense development, with new housing confined to the commercial core rather than residential neighborhoods.

The student body reflects the community's economic and demographic makeup. A small share of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
