Roseland Elementary is a school of about mid-sized enrollment in Santa Rosa's Roseland neighborhood, serving kindergarten through sixth grade in the Roseland School District. The enrollment is notably homogeneous, with the vast majority of students being Hispanic, and a very substantial share qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, reflecting a community with significant economic need.

Academic performance on California state assessments shows consistent challenges. Across tested grades and subjects, the school's overall proficiency sits well below the midpoint among Sonoma County districts. In English language arts, proficiency ranges from the high twenties in third grade to the low forties in fifth and sixth grades. Mathematics proficiency is lower, with fourth and fifth grades in the low twenties and third grade around mid-forties; sixth grade math is in the low thirties. Science proficiency, measured only in fifth grade, is particularly low.
