Shelyn Elementary sits in the unincorporated community of Rowland Heights in Los Angeles County, in the San Gabriel Valley. The school serves kindergarten through sixth grade and enrolls a small student body of about that size for an elementary school across those grade bands, with the largest cohorts at the kindergarten level and the smallest in sixth grade. The neighborhood is known as a hub for Asian culture and dining, with a landscape of single-family homes built largely from the 1960s through the 1990s on rolling hillsides, alongside some apartments and gated communities.
