Mansfield Elementary at Goodwin has closed. It is no longer an operating school.
Before it closed, the school served students in middle grades and reported state assessment results from the 2022-23 school year in English language arts and mathematics. In math, the school showed mixed performance across grades, with higher proficiency in grade four than in grade three. In English language arts, proficiency rates followed a similar pattern. Participation in state testing was nearly universal, meeting state requirements.
The school was part of the Mansfield School District, which underwent a major structural reorganization in the 2023-24 school year. The district consolidated three aging 1950s-era elementary schools into a single new PreK-Grade 4 facility, known as Mansfield Elementary School, which opened in spring 2023. This consolidation ended neighborhood-based elementary schools in Mansfield, centering all early elementary instruction in one modern building.
The new consolidated Mansfield Elementary School was designed as Connecticut's first net-zero energy public elementary school and built to house play-based, student-centered learning. The district has made play-based learning a strategic priority for its youngest students, aligned with a Connecticut law requiring a return to play-based instruction in the early grades. Housing values in the area are moderate relative to statewide benchmarks. The town is on an active growth trajectory, with several multi-family developments under construction or approved in the Four Corners area and northwest Mansfield, paired with municipal trail projects and updated planning. A property revaluation in late 2024 caused the mill rate to drop substantially, lowering the property tax burden for homeowners, and the town has received increased state aid for education.
