Luisa Pineiro Fuentes School of Science and Discovery is no longer operational. The school has closed.

When it was open as a middle school in the Bronx serving grades six through eight, state testing data from its final year showed academic performance well below proficiency across core subjects. In math, proficiency rates ranged from roughly one in six students in grade four to about one in three in grade three. English language arts performance was similarly low, with rates between roughly one in three and two in five students meeting standards across grades three through five. A science assessment from an earlier year showed about half of grade four students proficient. One social studies result from several years prior, before the school's name or identity shifted, showed stronger performance in that subject.

The school's location on Eames Place in the Bronx put it in New York City Geographic District 10, which covers the East Bronx. District 10 has been shrinking; enrollment across the district has declined notably over recent years, leaving the system with substantial excess elementary and middle school seats. The district is in the midst of required curriculum changes as part of the city's NYC Reads initiative, a phonics-based literacy mandate that rolled out to all elementary schools including District 10 in the 2024-25 school year.
