PS 6 West Farms serves children from pre-K through fifth grade in the Tremont neighborhood of the Bronx, in a densely populated urban setting. The school is part of the New York City public system under Geographic District 12, which covers portions of the central Bronx.

The school's enrollment is small and concentrated in the early grades, with roughly comparable numbers across grades kindergarten through fifth, and a smaller pre-K cohort. Nearly all students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and the student body is predominantly Hispanic, with a significant Black population and very few white, Asian, or multiracial students.

State testing data for the current school year shows proficiency rates in the low to mid range across subjects and grades. In math, third graders scored lowest at around one-fifth proficient, while fourth and fifth graders clustered around one-third to two-fifths proficient.
