However, eighth-grade mathematics proficiency is notably weaker, less than half of seventh-grade levels. In English language arts, seventh-grade proficiency is around forty percent, while eighth grade performs somewhat better at just under fifty percent. Science proficiency in eighth grade, where the assessment is administered, is markedly low. Participation rates in science testing are also sparse.
