C.S. Driver Middle School serves grades four through eight in Marcellus, a small residential village and bedroom community southwest of Syracuse. The school is part of the Marcellus Central School District, which occupies a shared campus with the high school and elementary school on the northwest side of the village, historically developed on former farmland rather than in the downtown core.

The student body is predominantly white and drawn from the local suburban and rural community. About a fifth of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. The school serves roughly four-fifths of the enrollment in its grade band, with middle school grades (six through eight) somewhat smaller than the elementary feeder grades.

In academic performance, the school shows solid, uneven results across grade levels. In math, students in grades four, five, seven, and eight show proficiency rates in the range of strong mid-to-high territory, with fifth grade performing notably well. Driver specifically, the auditorium received window replacements and HVAC upgrades, while all three district buildings received full roof replacements. The district financed this work through a low-cost state bond issued in 2024, providing long-term fixed-rate financing for projects already approved by voters. This means the facility improvements are in place without a sudden new property tax. However, the district's operating budgets have grown steadily in recent years through recurring tax levy increases, a pattern that will likely continue, so property-tax costs are a consideration for families weighing a move to the area.

Marcellus itself is a walkable village center surrounded by residential neighborhoods and active farmland.
