South Seneca Elementary School serves pre-kindergarten through fifth grade in Interlaken, a very small rural village in the Finger Lakes region of Seneca County, northwest of Ithaca. The school is part of South Seneca Central School District, formed by consolidating the former Interlaken and Ovid districts; this building houses the district's elementary students, while middle and high school grades are located on a separate campus in Ovid.

The school enrolls roughly three hundred students, a manageable size for an elementary setting. About half the student body qualifies for free or reduced-price lunch, reflecting the economic character of a rural farming and dairy region.
