Rise Academy is a tuition-free, open-enrollment public charter serving prekindergarten through eighth grade in East Lubbock. As a charter, it operates independently of any traditional school district; the school has no attendance boundary and admits students based on application rather than residence. Its student body is roughly three-quarters Black and one-quarter Hispanic, with a very small white population. The school serves substantial economic need, though specific free-or-reduced-price lunch counts are not published.

The school has earned an A accountability rating from the Texas Education Agency every year since 2021-2022, with the most recent rating confirmed in August 2025. For a single-campus, economically disadvantaged-serving charter, that consistency signals durability in academic outcomes.

State test results show a mixed picture. In English language arts across grades three through eight, proficiency runs strong. Third grade, fifth grade, sixth grade, and seventh grade all show majority-level performance, with eighth grade reaching full proficiency. Fourth grade dips below half. Science results fall notably lower. Fifth grade achieved proficiency for only about one in five students. Eighth grade performed better, at around four in five. The whole-school pattern shows that about seven in ten approached science standards, but only about one in ten mastered them. A parent may want to look into further what the school's approach to science instruction is and how it plans to strengthen that area.

Social studies data are available only for eighth grade, where about three in ten students met proficiency. This is a limited sample, and schools do not test social studies in middle grades as consistently as other subjects, so a fuller picture would require conversation with the school.

The enrollment is small. Prekindergarten makes up roughly one-third of the student body, and the school tapers significantly in the upper grades, with eighth grade at about a dozen students. This structure reflects the fact that Rise Academy was founded as a single charter campus and has not expanded upward as cohorts age; families should expect the school to remain small and to discuss with the school how that shapes class size, social life, and transitions to high school.

The school's location on Martin Luther King Boulevard in East Lubbock places it in a historically underserved area of the city. Lubbock itself is a mixed-character city anchored by Texas Tech University, with car-dependent suburban zones and a downtown undergoing revitalization. The charter's mission of serving open enrollment means families from across the city apply; transportation and commute time are worth discussing with the school, as most routes require driving.

Rise Academy's A-rated track record and strong ELA results are genuine strengths for a school serving this population and size. The mathematics and especially science results warrant conversation about curriculum depth and resource allocation. The small, declining enrollment in upper grades and absence of high school may appeal to families wanting a small, intimate setting for younger students, or raise questions about where and how eighth graders transition to secondary school.
