A.C. Blunt Middle serves roughly four hundred students in grades six through eight in Aransas Pass, a small coastal city on the Texas Gulf Coast whose economy centers on maritime industries and fishing. The school sits within the city proper on Demory Lane, part of a four-campus Aransas Pass ISD that serves the area.

The student body is predominantly Hispanic, with a substantial majority qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. The composition reflects the working-class character of the community, where manufacturing, construction, and tourism provide employment alongside the seafood and oil industries.

On state testing across four subjects in early 2025, Blunt shows uneven performance. In English language arts, roughly two-fifths of sixth graders, about one-third of seventh graders, and roughly two-fifths of eighth graders scored at proficient or above. Math proficiency is notably lower: only about one-eighth of sixth graders, less than one-fifth of seventh graders, and only about one-twelfth of eighth graders reached proficiency. Compared to districts in San Patricio County, Blunt's proficiency index sits in the bottom quartile, indicating weaker overall performance than most of its neighboring districts.

A parent considering this school should understand that math appears to be an area of particular concern, with very low proficiency rates across all grades. The school's English language arts results are comparatively stronger but still leave most students below proficiency. The economic context is working-class, and the learning environment reflects the challenges many schools face in communities with higher poverty rates.

Aransas Pass ISD recently saw a tax increase proposal fail at the ballot in November, meaning the district will forego additional operating funds for classrooms and teacher compensation.
