Athens High School serves grades nine through twelve in Athens, a small county seat in the East Texas Piney Woods roughly seventy miles southeast of Dallas. In social studies, the school shows the highest proficiency for approaches grade level, at about nine in ten students, with nearly half meeting the standard. Across all subjects, the proficiency rate for "approaches" sits at roughly three-quarters, though the "meets" rate hovers around four in ten and mastery is rare at about one in ten students.
