Cobb 6th Grade Campus is a sixth-grade-only school in Houston serving a student population that is predominantly Hispanic and Black, with nearly all students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. The school enrolls a substantial cohort of young adolescents in an academically challenging period.
On state testing, about half the students met or exceeded proficiency in reading, and a similar share did so in math. Slightly more students reached proficiency in reading than in math. When looking at all performance tiers, a large majority approached the proficiency standard in math, and a substantial majority did so in reading, which suggests that while many students are within reach of grade-level benchmarks, a meaningful number are working below that line. The share of students achieving mastery-level performance in either subject was modest, around a quarter of the student body.
Cobb 6th Grade Campus sits within Galena Park ISD, a district undergoing significant infrastructure change.
