Camey Elementary is a PreK through grade 5 school in The Colony serving a student population that is roughly half Hispanic and with a substantial share of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. The school has about average enrollment for its grade band within the district.

On state assessments, Camey's academic performance is weak. In English language arts, grade 4 students show somewhat better results, with about half reaching proficiency; grade 5 performs similarly. Grade 3 results in reading are not reported. In math, the picture is more concerning: grade 3 achieves proficiency at about one-third the rate, grade 5 at roughly the same rate, and grade 4 students in a Spanish-language math assessment showed no proficiency. Science results in grade 5 are very low. Across all tested subjects and grade levels, the school's overall proficiency sits in the bottom quartile when compared against other schools in Denton County's districts.

The Colony itself is a master-planned lakeside suburb about a half hour north of Dallas, built largely around residential subdivisions and lake recreation. Housing values are moderate for the DFW area, and most residents commute by car to employment centers in Plano, Frisco, or Dallas. The community is auto-oriented outside of the Grandscape mixed-use development along State Highway 121, which offers walkable retail and dining. The city is approaching build-out, with newer residential growth concentrated in The Tribute golf community. A parent evaluating Camey would want to look into the school's specific instructional supports and recent assessment trends with the school directly, as the current data reflects a school with significant academic gaps that merit closer attention.
