Hollister School District serves kindergarten through grade eight across a substantial enrollment spread across multiple schools. The student population is predominantly Hispanic, with a smaller share of white students and small populations of Asian, multiracial, and other backgrounds. More than a substantial share of students speak English as a second language or have limited English proficiency, a characteristic reflected in the district's programs, which include a dedicated Dual Language Academy.

State testing results in English language arts show performance in the lower range compared to other districts in San Benito County. Across the grades tested, proficiency rates hover in the mid-to-high thirties to low forties, with the strongest results in grade five and eighth grade, where proficiency approaches or reaches the upper thirties to low forties. Proficiency declines noticeably in upper elementary and middle grades, particularly in grade three and grade four in ELA, before recovering somewhat in grades five and seven.
