The U.S. Department of Education has granted a waiver and extension of project periods for 36 Native American Career and Technical Education Program (NACTEP) projects, allowing them to receive additional federal funding for up to another year, with work ending no later than September 30, 2027.
Regulatory waiver
The action, published in the Federal Register on July 24, 2026, and effective the same day, waives the Education Department General Administrative Regulations that normally prohibit project periods longer than five years and bar extensions that involve obligating extra federal funds. The waiver applies specifically to projects under Assistance Listing Number 84.101A, the NACTEP grant program.
The rule is a final action by the Secretary and does not require public comment. It lifts the usual administrative limits so that grantees can continue operating past their original project end dates without a lapse in federal support.
