Every county will sustain local AI training capacity through a train-the-trainer model. The framework includes a tiered credentialing system for educators and schools. Participants progress through levels named Pioneer, Trailblazer, and Ridge Climber as they complete training and demonstrate proficiency with AI tools. Partnerships and data privacy
The initiative is supported by partnerships with Prodigy Learning and Microsoft. Prodigy Learning is providing West Virginia educators with in-person and virtual training on its products at no additional cost, including materials required for license renewal. Students earn micro-credentials through Prodigy Learning and Minecraft Education. Some high schools are piloting Thunkable for app development.
Data privacy protections are built around Microsoft's walled K-12 platform. A West Virginia Task Force on AI was established under state code and includes the WVDE among its members.
