Long Middle, a regular public school serving grades six through eight in Dallas, is closing at the end of the current school year as part of a district consolidation. Beginning in the 2025-2026 school year, its students will attend new campuses following a significant redraw of attendance zones. For families moving into the area, this closure is the defining context: the school will not continue to serve the neighborhood.

The academic picture shows persistently low performance. On state assessments administered this past year, the school's overall proficiency rate across tested subjects fell in the bottom quartile among Denton County districts.
