Grant Middle serves the middle grades in Corpus Christi ISD during a period of significant district transition. The student body is predominantly Hispanic, with a substantial majority qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, reflecting the economic composition of this part of Corpus Christi. The enrollment is moderate in size for a three-grade middle school, with roughly balanced cohorts across sixth, seventh, and eighth grades.

In English language arts, the school performs more consistently: sixth and eighth graders show solid proficiency rates, while seventh grade sits at a midpoint level. Math tells a sharper story. The school operates in a city that is overall car-dependent, though downtown waterfront areas and the Marina Arts District offer walkable culture. Corpus Christi's economy rests on military installations, energy and petrochemical industry, healthcare, and port activity. The Southside and westside are seeing residential growth, with new housing developments and families drawn by newer infrastructure, though the district's enrollment decline is pushing in the opposite direction.

The district is under financial strain. It operates on deficit budgets and lost a major bond referendum in November 2024, which means promised new construction and renovations did not move forward. For families in attendance zones affected by the January closures, especially those zoned to the middle schools that closed, commutes and school assignments have shifted. Grant avoided closure, but its future depends partly on whether the district can stabilize enrollment and secure funding for facility and program improvements in the years ahead.
