Grady School sits in Lenorah, an unincorporated settlement in central Martin County, West Texas, about fourteen miles northwest of Stanton. The campus runs from pre-K through twelfth grade, making it the sole school in Grady ISD and the single most significant institution in the community. Publicly reported accounts describe a campus where teachers are largely provided housing on-site, which speaks to both the remoteness of the location and the degree to which the school is woven into daily life here. The surrounding land is cotton fields, mesquite, oil derricks, and now wind turbines; residents drive to Midland for most goods and services. If you are moving here, the school is not adjacent to the community so much as it is the community.

The enrollment is small for a school spanning this full a grade range, with class sizes at each grade level that are quite thin. That intimacy can translate into strong student-teacher relationships and every student knowing every staff member, but it also means a limited peer pool, narrow elective offerings, and, practically, no redundancy if a key teacher leaves. Program data was not available in what we were provided, so it is worth asking the school directly about dual-credit, CTE, and extracurricular options before drawing conclusions.

On the Texas STAAR, the academic picture splits sharply by subject. Reading and language arts are a genuine strength at Grady School. Proficiency rates across tested grades from third through eighth are consistently very high, with nearly all students reaching the approaches-grade-level threshold and strong performance carrying into the meets-grade-level tier as well. Science tells a similar story: near-universal approaches rates and solid meets rates in both tested grades. Social studies at the eighth-grade level also shows strong results.

Math is a different conversation. Approaches rates schoolwide are strong, meaning most students demonstrate basic grade-level access to math content. But proficiency at the meets-grade-level standard is roughly half of students, and the masters tier, which indicates students working well above grade level, is quite low. Grade-by-grade, math proficiency varies: fifth grade is the high point, while third, seventh, and eighth grades sit considerably lower. This pattern bears watching for a family with a student heading into middle school math. It is worth asking the school what interventions and supports exist for students who are not yet meeting grade-level expectations in math.

Within the set of districts in Martin County, Grady School's overall proficiency index places it at the top of the comparison group. That is a real data point, though the comparison set is small and parents should weigh it accordingly.

A substantial share of students are Hispanic and a majority are white. The share of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch is relatively modest compared to many West Texas schools, though data on English learner students and students with IEPs was not available in what we were provided.

Graduation rate data was not included in what we received, and chronic absenteeism data was also absent. These are gaps a family with a high schooler should ask the district to address directly.

The long-term trajectory of Lenorah itself is one of gradual depopulation from a mid-century peak, with wind energy now the most visible sign of new economic activity rather than housing growth or population rebound. The county seat and most services are in Stanton; Midland anchors regional commerce. There is no housing market in Lenorah in any conventional sense; this is a place where people come because of the school or because of the land, not because of a real estate market with appreciating inventory.

Grady School fits a family that values tight community, PK-12 continuity in one building, and strong reading outcomes, and is comfortable with the trade-offs that come with a very small, very rural campus in one of the more isolated pockets of West Texas.
